Athlete Spotlight on Kate Pescitelli

unnamed-1

Name and “board name” (Or what should your board name be)? What are your stats (Optional)?

– Kate

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

– I live and always have lived in Amityville. My dad’s (Bruce Pescitelli) family has resided in Amityville for over 105 years now!!

What do you do for a living?

– This Fall 2015, I will be starting graduate school at Adelphi University to continue my dream of becoming a Speech Pathologist!

When did you become part of the Diamond family and why did you join?

– I joined just about a year ago! I joined because I became sick of doing the same workouts everyday at good old Big Al’s. Tiff and PJ brought me in for a trial session, and after that I knew I wanted to become part of the Diamond family!! So thanks to Tiff and PJ, I made the best decision!

What was your athletic background before joining CFD?

– I have always been involved with sports growing up. I guess you can say I was kind of a “Tom Boy” LOL. I played soccer, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and softball. Softball was by far my favorite sport! After high school, I stopped playing sports and just worked out at Big Al’s and ran outside.

What is your favorite WOD/exercise?

– I LOVE any workout that involves cardio, especially running! I also like OHS, GHD’s, lunges, box jumps, and deadlifts.

What is your least favorite WOD/ exercise?

– I do NOT like doing any workout that involves thrusters! I am not the strongest when it comes to my lower body, so thrusters absolutely kill me. I am determined to keep practicing and getting stronger, because I know how beneficial this movement is.

What is your biggest milestone, achievement, or “A-ha” moment at CFD?

– I don’t think I can answer this with just one accomplishment. Every time I’m at the gym, I always surprise myself with what I can do. Even if it is just increasing my weight by five pounds or getting lower with my squats, I am always trying to improve with each workout. I think being able to do any form of squats while keeping my knees out is my biggest accomplishment! This of course couldn’t have been done without the help of all the coaches!

What goal(s) are you looking to accomplish?

– I am definitely trying to get double unders without any attempts and kipping pull-ups!! Two goals that I will always strive for are strength and health.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of CFD?

– I love to do outdoor activities! So anything like bike riding, roller blading, running, going to the beach, volleyball, and boating! I am such an outdoors girl!!

What is something that we may not know about you?

– I LOVE to do yard work!!! Every Sunday, you can expect to find me mowing, weed whacking, sweeping, and weeding my entire house, PLUS my grandparents! My dad told me he wants his yard to look like Yankee Stadium, so every week I make sure to mow the lawn in opposite directions to get that perfect checkerboard LOL.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

– Buffalo wings are definitely a downfall for me! On football Sunday’s you can always find me with a plate of wings LOL.

What is some advice or encouragement for someone just starting CFD or thinking of starting?

– Let me start by saying that joining Crossfit Diamond was one of the absolute best choices I have made! After the first few WOD’s I remember walking out of the gym, thinking to myself, “ OMG I don’t think I can do any more of this.” Now a year later, I love the feeling of being sore after a WOD because I know I had a great workout! The best part about crossfit is seeing how far your strength and confidence can improve with time. The members at Crossfit Diamond are the absolute best!!! Everyone cheers and supports one another and that is the best feeling when you’re working out. I’ve had the privilege to make great friends at the gym and they truly have a large impact on my life! And of course I can’t leave out Jenn! Jenn is the absolute best supporter and friend you can have! The advice she offers is sooo helpful! I can stay at the gym for hours talking to Jenn about anything and that’s what I love about Crossfit Diamond!

8.  What is your biggest milestone, achievement, or “A-ha” moment at CFD?

There are many, being able to hit a PR, or string doubles. And I guess staying conscience which was a problem on day 1.

9.  What goal(s) are you looking to accomplish?

To continue to learn the lifts and be more proficient, and Kip I’m sure all the coaches are tired of me asking how to do them.

13.  What is some advice or encouragement for someone just starting CFD or thinking of starting?

You just need to get through the door. Do not feel that you can’t do something. The coaches are great and can scale anything to suit your abilities. The time you finish or the weight you lift is irrelevant and no one cares. Just come in and be you. You will see results and that will be the motivation to continue.  I go to the 5am class with a great group of people we all get up when it’s dark out to work out and yet we are still laughing and having fun. It’s a testament to what the coaches, people and diamond is all about.
